I'm looking for friendly and interesting people to follow in the

I'll follow anyone who replies to this with an answer:

If you happened to come across it in the wild, what real animal would you be most likely to mistake for a space alien?

But this does not mean we should stop pushing to do better still. And we can!

Right now, against commonly held beliefs, we are actually doing pretty good. We just need to do more good faster!

That's the message I want to to share: You aren't doomed. You are doing good. Do more good faster!

Collectively, this means, as most recent climate models show, that if humanity continues on our current trend, we can limit global climate change to about 3 degrees.

That's not great, but it means that our children aren't doomed to the inevitable catastrophic consequences of climate change.

Emissions from coal specifically in the US are lower than at any time since 1870, and declining so rapidly that by 2030 it's unlikely coal will produce more than 5-10% of US total power.

Meanwhile, by 2030, renewables could surpass 50% of the US total energy production!

This is all happening *without* meaningful climate legislation in the US.

It's not just per capita emissions either! Total US emissions are also declining every year.

More so, this is the case with many industrialized nation, like the UK and Germany. This is legitimately good and hopeful news!

Globally per capita CO2 emissions have flattened and are starting to decline as well.

The per capita CO2 emissions in the US are at 70 year lows and are declining faster every year! This is great news, but there is more.

First of all, I want you to go to ourworldindata.org/explorers/c and look at per capita CO2 emissions for your nation. (I'll use the US.)

I want to give you some good news today.

Many people are rightfully very concerned about , and it remains the biggest challenge of our time. But despair is not the solution, and there is reason for hope.

A short 🧵 with real data on why you should be hopeful about climate change.
