Those of you who live "up north" may recognise this type of pea, Carlin. I've been looking for an alternative to chickpeas and these Black badger types have a whopping 23g/100g of protein.
Going to have a go at growing this year, once I think of a way of keeping th rats and pigeons away.

@Hesperalis I signed up for the “Revival of The Carlin Pea” trial through Gardening Organic.
I’m expecting seeds from the trial organisers any time now. I have to grow two wigwams of peas for drying: Minerva Carlin Pea and Latvian Pea and keep them updated throughout.
I’ve never grown them before. #GrowYourOwn #Allotment #Gardening
@Broadfork @Hesperalis Staple menu item at Stalybridge Buffet Bar - a pint of great beer and black peas in front of the fire
@phil55494 @Broadfork That sounds great . I've found a few recipes to try.
@Broadfork Thanks, that's incredibly helpful. What pretty flowers too. I usually only grow mangetout peas as when I've tried round peas the rats get them as they begin to swell. I have a cunning plan in mind to stop that happening
@Hesperalis Yes, they do have a beautiful flower. I’ll have to remember what it is I have to keep a record of. Mind like a sieve sometimes.
I have some herdwick fleece I will put down on my bean beds this yearfor a little extra slug protection. The sheep wool worked like magic underneath the dahlias last summer and the perennial kale over winter.
