My bookmark matches my book. I bet everyone else in the hairdressers is thinking: 'Now there's a woman who knows where her towel is.'


My paperback edition of Alice Hoffman's slim novel Local Girls, propped by the mirror in the hairdressers. A used book, as evidenced by the 29:00 kroner price sticker. The cover is one of those maddeningly over-used blurry images of a woman with lots of blue tones. The blue changes strength in gradients from top down, ending at a block of vivid orange at the bottom. My cloth bookmark beside it has a similar pattern of orange colours graduating down that matches the look of the book. Let's pretend this happened by accident and not because I spend ages picking the right bookmark to suit every book I read.
