@JohanEmpa it's great that you start with your mission -- it clearly grounds the reasons for your decision. When I first saw your framing in the poll I wasn't sure why you were approaching it that way (what about other concerns about Meta or other surveillance capitalism companies?) but now I understand!

@JohanEmpa I feel very much at home and at ease with such a statement, well done!

@JohanEmpa This decision feels very hasty. Why not start with federating, and if something is wrong defederate later?

Are you still considering to host a server that does federate with big tech companies? I'd probably join that one once big players enter the fediverse.

@cbruegg The Big Tech companies have a long history. We've seen how companies with 100 billion dollar budgets treat competing platforms, open standards, FOSS, moderation and users.

The poll suggest block, and the policy isn't cut in stone. These results also show that it may be possible to host a second server.

About 400 people voted in the poll so far:
"block (and possibly federate later)" has 63 %
"federate (and possibly block later)" has 25 %
"two servers" has 8 %
other 4 %

@JohanEmpa Thanks for this!

So mastodon green will not federate with threads ?
