Bezos appears to be trying to water down the SBTi net zero standards to allow more reliance on carbon credits and less expectation of actual reductions.

Companies like Amazon hate doing actual supply chain emission reduction, they just want to throw money at cheap nonsense credits.

For context that’s missing in this article, “carbon neutral” is what most companies like to do, and it’s greenwashing. Business as usual. Keep polluting just pay a few bucks.

SBTi is pushing the far better Corporate Net Zero standard, which is in line with the science on emissions reductions.

Bezos wants to use his $10bn “climate fund” (and a bit of bog standard regulatory capture) to water that down, to benefit Amazon, and of course himself.
