Christine Burns MBE 🏳️‍⚧️📚

There is apparently some anger that all but one of the adult gender identity clinics in England and Wales declined to have any truck with Cass wanting to reach into their patient records. Their punishment will be a review of their own operations. Personally, I have to say that they’ve gone up in my estimation. They’ve shown more balls than I ever thought they had. Someone ought to ask them why they refused to have any truck with the Cass circus.

@christineburns one might posit they knew what was coming and didn't want to be tainted by it

@Nikkileah @christineburns even without assuming that, given how overloaded they are, why should they reduce care by forcing doctors to do a load of extra work.

@christineburns I’m quite frankly appalled that not one of the major media outlets reported on why they didn’t comply.

Surely it was clear that they could not be compelled to hand over private medical records, and that patients had not previously consented to this?

I wonder what the data protection liability of handing over patient data would be?

@Jo The one in Devon, surprising precisely nobody.

@christineburns Yeah, the article I was reading offered no real explanation for why that was the case. You would think they would investigate why? Maybe ask them directly "hey, why didn't you want to participate in this?"

@christineburns At this rate, they may as well get Az Hakeem to lead the 'review' into adult GICs because we already know the outcome. It's a repeat of history where Paul McHugh commissioned a biased 'study' to legitimise a political aim.

@llwynog We should have taken the Tavistock and Portman reactionaries more seriously back in 2002 when a bunch of them were writing indignant letters to the broadsheets decrying the Court of Human Rights ruling in Goodwin and I v UK. Today’s travails have very old roots.
