Christine Burns MBE 🏳️‍⚧️📚

Imagine if it was YOUR teenage kid put onto a waiting list for a service that would no longer treat them by the time they got to the front of the queue. And imagine then having to live another 8 years on an adult waiting list. That’s just plain Orwellian. It’s hard to avoid the conclusion that the outcome is deliberate.

@christineburns But if you speak too loudly about healthcare being poorly run, powerful people might get terrified and think your speaking was doing a terrorism! :blobcatpeek:

@christineburns when my daughter was looking to transition, we looked at the various options, and going down the NHS route was just too much for her; it would have been around 5 years before anything much happened.

We were fortunate, we went private, although that too had its pitfalls. We’ve since found our way back in to the NHS, and they’ve been great. There is no perfect single solution, hell, not even “decent” single solution. Our experience has been ‘not bad’, but hard work

@christineburns
It is absolutely deliberate.
What I don't grok is who on earth it benefits in the UK. Am not convinced it'll satisfy the haters, and drags the Cons deeper into the mud. And many, many people know a trans kid in their circle of family and friends.
It's an action tailor made to alienate voters.

@abendgules @christineburns

There's a saying to the effect that 'the cruelty is the point'. Trans kids dying is their goal. Trans adults dying is their goal. And there are enough people who think of us as aberrations that it's not going to make a sizeable ding in the Lib Dem or Labour voting blocs. (The Tories are of course entirely on with the cruelty, and Reform, you don't even have to ask.)

It doesn't matter who it helps. It just matters who it hurts.

@theogrin @abendgules @christineburns

And cruelty is cheap. If you only have to offer a subset of voters some mean-spirited attack on a minority they don't care about, that's *easy*. Good governance is complicated, and requires understanding. Shitty misrule is at about the skill level of career politicians.

@christineburns personally, I go for callous indifference with an element of professional jealousies, but ... same difference, really.

@christineburns

But Streeting, Starmer and the Tories before them are plain malicious, obvs
