When someone challenged Elon Musk, son of South African mining oligarchs, about the US government organizing a coup in Bolivia in order to guarantee cheap lithium, Musk’s response was short and sharp: “We will coup whoever we want,” he said. “Deal with it.” Or when Teague Egan, founder and CEO of EnergyX, saw Bolivia’s lithium-rich salt flats he said: “This is what I’m going to fucking conquer!” He boasted that he would make a New Bolivia. Classic tech bros.

@gerrymcgovern This doesn’t seem any different to the colonialism that invaded and occupied many countries for resources. Only these days they are precious minerals used in ubiquitous high tech, whereas 300-400 years ago it was timber and animal pelts (and gold, ofc). And as Musk makes clear, they will still try to change the rulers of a territory.
