in local elections. I like the look of these maps today (Guardian + BBC). Greens are functioning as an anti-Tory vote in places without much of a Labour tradition and as v strong 2nd party to Labour in eg S Tyneside. Well placed to influence many councils in no overall control (grey on BBC map). Rough maths (check this for me!): Greens far away winners in percentage rise, 50% up, LDs 24% up, Labour 20% up. But maths may be shonky. I am using BBC figures to work this out.

Ian Hunt

Greens : 481 seats won, up 241; Lib Dems 1626 seats won, up 405; Labour 2674 seats won, up 536.
