Next month is #FreezerFebruary: when you eat (or compost, if best-before date is too far in the past) everything left in your freezer, no matter what.
On March 1st, you turn it off and defrost it, and start spring with a clean freezer.
Frost in the freezer takes up space and wastes energy. This is good for you AND for the planet.
Who is with me?
@juliette if we can square it with the different familial meal services, yes!
@juliette we had a couple of days frost half January and used that to store goods outside for a few hours while defrosting the freezer, timing is crucial.
@juliette I've just done it last saturday as we had a day of frost then
@juliette but what about the frozen berries I picked seven years ago and am saving for an emergency?
@juliette I should unplug, defrost, and replace it. Our freezer is ancient, and is wasting energy (and therefore money, too) every day it is still in use. I hate to throw away things that work, but in this case, I really should.
@juliette I’m in (and have been on the job since 1/1) except with I’m sharing freezers with a hunter and an angler (same guy very practical). We’re doing a serial version where we’re consolidating ind to a smaller subset of freezers and defrosting on turn hopefully before the fruit and veggies start piling up again .
