642 years ago today, on 30th May 1381, the #PeasantRevolt started. My daughter learned about it at school recently (impressed they did this! Not sure whether it's part of the national curriculum?). I ended up watching this Tony Robinson documentary and thoroughly enjoyed it. What fantastic courage and organisation by #WatTyler and all #Revolution
Until recently I had not heard of the 1607 “Midlands Rebellion”. It was crushed in a battle at Newton in Northants. The grievance was that lords were enclosing the commons. The guilty party in this case persisted in defiance of orders from parliament. He was also a closet catholic. Despite this class solidarity meant it was the peasants who were punished.
