#ClimateDiary Greenpeace must pay at least $660m over Dakota pipeline protests, says jury
Nothing clever or insightful to add; all i can say: this is just so bad and so depressing, amidst so many bad and depressing news.
@pvonhellermannn The jury was composed of oil executives who have been writing the laws for a century that don't regulate their industry
@pvonhellermannn
It was not a fair trial. I share your feelings.

@pezmico @pvonhellermannn But can't they appeal anymore? But yeah, defo a huge blow.
@MeerderWoerter @pezmico @pvonhellermannn Reading that document it seems they can.
@pezmico @pvonhellermannn "I have documented human rights abuses and sham trials across the globe under some of the world's most repressive regimes, but the myriad violations of fair trial rights I witnessed in that North Dakota courtroom has shocked me to the core."
@pvonhellermannn What I find really odd here is the attempt to make Greenpeace the orchastrator of these protests when they were just one of many involved parties.
I mean I get it, they created a scapegoat to a prominent name and tried to pint the environmental movement as a whole.
But I can see this not stopping groups and individuals.
