@revkin almost... if I continued working on a specific land yes. We have a large hugelkultur foundation that grew quite a bit in size after the winter storm in central Texas causing fallen branches. Just haven't thrown much soil on top yet to complete it.
Expect the soil to get pretty soft and the mound to sink down more than the illustration.
@revkin I’m not much of a gardener but yes- got the suggestion from a friend who is a good gardener and has hugelkultur beds that I helped him put in. Voles or similar are going to be an issue wherever they are but the hugel beds do seem possibly to help them get to your carrots and the like.
The hugel beds I put in do seem to help with moisture retention, I have rather sandy soil in general. North central MA
