Spring evenings can be chilly. To warm the boat, a cast-iron stove burns briquettes, scooped in from the bucket at left and arranged using tongs.

Ashes fall through a grate into a drawer that gets emptied into an ash bucket.

On top, a fan gently pushes heat through the space. It runs on an electric current generated from the stove's heat.

Behind the stove are fireproof ceramic tiles that look like oak planks.

A photo of a black, iron, wood-burning stove, also called a solid-fuel burner. It sits on a small platform topped in black slate. It has two doors on the front face: one for the fire box, the other for the ash drawer. Both doors have a shiny, black handle that stays cool, and that lifts to open. The fire-box door is three times taller than the ash-drawer door, and has a glass window through which coals can be seen brightly glowing as they cast their hot, orange light. Each door has an 8-centimetre dial that controls airflow into the stove. Exiting the top is a black, insulated flue pipe that carries smoke up to the chimney (not visible). Various items are arranged around the stove. To the left are a bucket of black briquettes for refilling the fire box, and a black, steel scoop that's leaning against the wall. Below are a pair of black metal tongs. On top is a black, metal, heat-powered fan. Behind are tiles whose printed surface design looks like beige, oak wood, similar in colour to the wood wall at the left edge of the photo.
