She is not a huge Tolkien fan, but gave me high marks and said she didn't get bored.

Pour le #TolkienReadingDay, j'aimerais attirer votre attention sur un conte trop peu connu de Tolkien (comme tout ce qui n'est pas situé en Terre du Milieu) : "Feuille, de Niggle". Niggle (dont le nom signifie "Scrupuleux") est un peintre, mais ne peut peindre qu'en amateur, à côté de ses multiples devoirs. Il sait qu'un jour il devra partir pour un long voyage, mais procrastine le moment de s'y préparer. Il a entamé un tableau qui représente un arbre, mais chaque feuille qu'il s'efforce de terminer lui demande un temps disproportionné.
"Feuille, de Niggle" est une histoire très touchante et plus ou moins allégorique sur la création artistique et la place qu'on lui donne dans la vie.
On peut le trouver en français par exemple dans le recueil "Faerie et autres textes".

La Fraternité de l'Anneau - J.R.R. Tolkien (livre audio)
Une relecture au format audio portée par l'excellente performance de Thierry Janssen qui est aussi à l'aise pour déclamer des poèmes que pour donner des voix différentes à chaque personnage (sans parler du fait qu'il rend même les plus interminables descriptions passionnantes).
Je suis contente de relire ce roman, je suis surprise à quel point c'est un texte réconfortant, mais qui trouve toujours le moyen de résonner avec notre époque.

Let me preface this by saying that I am a huge fan of Tolkien as both a human being and as a writer. My library has an entire section for Tolkien's Legendarium. It's overflowing at this point.
On the left we have my own copy of The Silmarillion, and on the right is my father's. He took that book across the country, while backpacking and later while living in his VW bus. It's special to me. The book, as a whole, was what drew me to writing in the first place. As a child, my dad first read The Hobbit to me before bed, and then The Lord of the Rings after. It was off to the races from that point on. The Lost Tales and The Unfinished Tales followed. When I got my hands on The Silmarillion, it sealed the deal for me. This is a comfort book for me, even though I cry buckets at the myths and tales within. That's okay, though.
