Many lessons learned re home upgrades, barriers to adoption,
But encouraging model for elsewhere.

Likely best for states with high energy costs and overburdened grid (like MA).

💡 eases grid strain of adding more electrified homes
💡 low/middle income homes = more numerous than wealthier ones, so much more climate impact
💡 can reduce energy bills for homeowner
💡 can provide backup pwr for outages, which are bigger strain on lower income

UmweltbundesamtNationale Klimaschutzbeiträge (NDC)Alle fünf Jahre sind die Vertragsstaaten des Übereinkommens von Paris dazu aufgerufen, neue nationale Klimaschutzbeiträge (NDC) vorzulegen. 2025 ist es wieder so weit. Mit den bis Mitte 2024 eingereichten NDCs steuert die Welt auf eine Erwärmung von 2,6 bis 3,1 Grad bis Ende des Jahrhunderts zu. Auf der COP28 verständigte man sich darauf, dass die neuen NDCs im Einklang mit 1,5 Grad stehen sollen.

🌱 Decommodifying essentials & building the social and care economy
🏢 Expanding co-ops & post-capitalist enterprises
💰 Redirecting finance toward useful sectors and less in harmful enterprise
🔄 Industrial policy & public job guarantees towards sectors that create social and ecological wellbeing

🚨 Liberal green policies generate conservative backlash

In the Netherlands, the government’s ‘ecological transition’ plan follows a neoliberal agenda. Policies like ‘true pricing’ (e.g. carbon taxes) claim to tackle the climate crisis but shift the burden onto consumers, worsening inequality.

⚠️ Carbon taxes are regressive. Why should low-income households bear the cost of our economic systems?

A just transition must tackle economic insecurity & inequality alongside climate action. Social wellbeing and ecological objectives must go hand in hand.

Liberal green policies provoke conservative backlash.
Liberal green parties across the EU focus on carbon taxes to address the ecological crisis. But these are regressive tools which reinforce inequalities and burden consumers with the costs of our economies. Neoliberal policies cannot achieve social and environmental justice!
The rise of the far right is alarming. To build enough counter-power, it is crucial that the narratives we build resonate with the majority of people who are living in precarious conditions. But so far, red-green parties across Europe have failed to do so.
While recognising the urgency of the climate crisis, red-green politics should not prioritise ecological objectives over social wellbeing. Tackling economic insecurity and inequality should be at the heart of the ecological transition. Read the full blog!
