@potterybyosa Seedling photographs are easy compared to a no-till or no-dig photograph. Charles Dowding of the UK has decades of no-dig experience he has shared. I understand the older material is less capitalist. I happy to share our Minnesota no-dig experience. Which often leads to someone with more experience. #nodig, #notill, #compost.

@potterybyosa Yes. Hello Florida. This Minnesota vegetable garden has been no dig and no till for twenty years. All the weed suppression is from harvesting lawn clippings, leaf mulch, compost, cardboard, and in recent years wheat straw poultry bedding. The earthworms eat the mulch improving the garden soil quality. The rain drops don’t directly strike the soil. It’s a good cycle. #nodig, #notill, #gardening

Early potatoes are dibbed in, covered with soil and then with hessian covers. I’m interested to see what the badgers do with them.

The beds have been regularly visited by badgers rooting around for earthworms since autumn. Sadly, they have had too much of a good thing.

We had unseasonably warm weather here in Forest of Dean (FoD) last week and it's nice and mild today. It rained last night properly for the first time in a while. Things are waking up and there's enough in the garden to keep us ticking over. The greenhouses are packed with salad greens, many self-seeded from last year. So we have salad greens just about every day. Seedlings are coming along well too.
The bees are quiet today but they had a great year and done well over the winter WITHOUT any help from chemicals or sugar feed. I don't treat them or feed them.
Last year they swarmed!
The willow hedge we put in for a windbreak did it's job over the winter, protecting the greenhouses.
This year, I'm back at it (after donating a kidney last year which knocked my growing schedule last year).
Last year was so awful for so many growers with the cold summer and record breaking rain and flooding. Here's hoping this year is a bit drier! #growyourownfood #goodfoodcomesfromthegarden #permaculture #nodig #bees #willow #seedsovereignty #saveseeds #growagarden #goodfoodisnotrocketscience #radicalgardening #resistbigagriculture #soilhealth

Here's the horror show at my community garden that I described several days ago. The "tilled" section has been plowed and looks weed free and inviting. But in reality the lawn of common mugwort that was previously there has just been broken up into thousands of little clumps, soon to reestablish in areas of the garden that previously didn't have it. And then, just like in past years, gardeners will abandon their plots because the weeds are too thick and the vegetables can't compete. #allotment #garden #gardening #weed #nodig #tilling #plowing #mugwort

At my community garden one can choose to be on the tilled side or the non-tilled side. I chose the latter because I can use it year-round (e.g., I sow peas and fava beans in February). But the photos below provide the other big reason: common mugwort (Artemisia vulgaris). When you have a lawn of this, the very last thing you want to do is plow — every single one of the thousands of rhizome segments will survive and thrive. But that is exactly what will happen this week. I watch in horror every year. #garden #allotment #mugwort #weed #nodig

@Broadfork @Anne_Delong @colinpurrington Thank you for the ideas. We have eggs and shells from the runner duck team. Some of the shells are ground up for treats for the red wrigglers in the worm farm 360. The rest of the shells have been added to the compost pile as slow release nutrients. We could do more apple cider vinegar for the garden. We could do more foliar sprays. #Vermiculture, #minnesota, #nodig, #compost, #koreannaturalfarming.
