So now my pictures from my bike ride to Penarth pier. #CosmestonLakes #Penarth

Looking out from the pier into the Bristol Channel. A push bike leans against the Victorian style railings of the pier. There is calm water in the foreground with a small boat visible. On the horizon are flat and steep Holme islands. The sky above is a pale blue.

A view from the pier looking south along the coast. The water laps against the pebble and sand beach, a couple of people are visible. The sun is visible low in the sky on the right edge of the picture, meaning the coast has no colour, mostly black but with some grey.

A view towards the pier as it catches the last of the afternoon sun. The tide is still fairly low and the pebble beach is extensive.

A couple of short outings today. A walk to #CosmestonLakes and a short ride to #Penarth pier.

A brighter than normal horizon with the slightest hint of red to the naked eye, but the unmistakable glow of the #northernlights was revealed with a 4 second exposure in #Penarth last night. Throw in some #perseids and you have a wonderful night under the stars! #aurora #astronomy

It has that new train smell! First impressions - smart, light, info screens, step that slides out to close the platform gap. I didn’t take a photo of the screens, but the #Cymraeg version is missing a space between the “…next station is…” and the name. Also, not using the treigladau (mutations) “…i Penarth”. Anyway, there’s a clue where I’m off to next. #Penarth 8/n

Took a #Wander across the #CardiffBayBarrage, from #Penarth and back today. Great views...... and very hot. Pictured are;

Looking towards Penarth from The Cardiff Barrage:

Two Parallel footpaths, close together but at slightly different levels are joined by another, slightly sloping path. They curve around, following the shape of the barrage and resulting bay. The mechanisms of the sea locks can be seen in the distance and behind them, Penarth. The older houses built on top of a hill above a sheer sea cliff, with newer houses placed around the waterfront. The water is calm and blue, reflecting the pale blue sky above, which is sparsely populated with thin, high white clouds

Looking to Cardiff Bay from the Barrage:

Calm blue water terminates in a line of moored boats. Behind them are the iconic buildings of the "new" cardiff bay. A white Ferris wheel, the Terracotta "Pierhead" building with it's clocktower and the glass-walled "Senedd" building. Rising behind all these is the impressive "Wales Millennium Centre" It's bronze coloured walls looking like fish scales

The Norwegian Church and Scott Antartic Memorial:

A small Norwegian style church, it's walls made from white wooden boards and it's roof and spire a faded black sits behind a sculpture depicting Scott man-hauling towards the south Pole. It's surface is made of an irregular mosaic of small white tiles.

A small yacht moving into one of the sea locks of the Cardiff Barrage:

A white yacht motors into a gap between two concrete walls. It is dwarfed by the size of the lock, only it's mast pokes above the walls. Above, large grey steel arms sit that lever up the roadway to allow boats to pass through. In the background, houses and apartment blocks, some under construction, can be seen on the opposite side of the bay

Another short section of the #WalesCoastPath ticked off today, this time, #Penarth back to #SullyIsland. Pictured are:

-Penarth with it's pier and #CardiffBay in the background
-St Lawrence #Church at #Lavernock, with it's plaque commemorating #Marconi
-A Second World War gun emplacement and it's more modern graffitti, and
-St Mary's Well Bay and Sully Island

Looking back to Penarth Pier and Cardiff Bay beyond:

An expanse of flat, slate coloured sea stretches out below. A Pier stretches out into it, a few huts set along it's length and a more substantial building sits at it's entrance. Sheer cliffs rise up behind it with the houses of Penarth on top. In the distance the flats and industrial buildings of Cardiff Bay can be seen. A threatening, grey, cloud laden sky sits above

The small limestone church of St Lawrence at Lavernock:

Looking over a stone wall and passed an overgrown graveyard to the doorway of a small grey, stone church. A plaque set in the wall commemorates that Lavernock was the location for Marconi and kemp's successful experiment to send radio messages across water.

A brightly graffitied WW2 gun emplacement:

A square grey, concrete blockbuilding with a semi-circular bay at the front. It has a rusted metal girder at the top of the semicircular bay. The back of this bay and also metal doors on the side, have been painted with brightly coloured graffitti, some of it depicting ant-war peace messages.

Looking over St Mary's Well Bay, passed Ball Rock to Sully Island:

A line of green shrubs tops a cliff standing over a rugged bay. Fingers of dark rock stretch into a grey sea. Trees line the back of the opposite beach. Sully Island stretches out from behind the opposite promontory and the shadow of the Somerset coast can be seen in the distance
