Some #photos from my husband's Saturday afternoon #walk in the #DightyBurn wooded #river valley near our home in eastern #Dundee, #Scotland. #BroughtyFerry #Monifieth #Dighty #Tayside #Angus #Photography #Birds #Birding #BirdPhotography #BirdingPhotography #Butterfly #Butterflies #SpeckledWood #SpeckledWoodButterfly #SpeckledWoodButterflies #LongTailedTits #Magpie #Magpies #Kingfisher #Kingfishers #Woods #Rivers #Countryside #Nature #Wildlife #UrbanNature #CityWildlife #Lepidoptery
On my walk #today I headed for a hedge-lined lane where I knew there would be sun-traps. I thought I might see the first #butterfly this year, drawn by the warmth. Sure enough! Pararge Aegeria - a Speckled Wood - flitting in and out of the hedge. I managed a hasty blurred shot of it when it landed briefly in the undergrowth. #SpeckledWood #butterflies #SaveButterflies #ButterflyConservation #lepidoptery
A nice #Butterfly from the early days of August. I think its a #SpeckledWood #Speckled_Wood butterfly. The underside has a pretty pattern and eye.
It has a nice beauty. I think everyone wants to see the top side of butterflies but the underside can be just as interesting.
My latest ever Speckled Wood on campus today!
Presumably a late 3rd generation encouraged to emerge by the recent warm weather (Speckled Woods normally overwinter as a chrysalis or 3rd instar larva). Also seen on my lunchtime walk: 11 Red Admirals, 1 Peacock and a Small Tortoiseshell.
