A few months ago I visited the Grand Canyon by train all the way from LA. I write about the experience for Traveller today in The Age or Sydney Morning Herald - pick up a copy of either newspaper to read the story (I'll share the online version here when it becomes available).

Without a good alternative it's hard to change travel habits.

"Train travel needs to be made more attractive. People worry about missed connections and getting stranded somewhere — and rightly so. You can't simply travel from Amsterdam to Spain on one ticket from one railway company. If you miss a connection, you're often stuck.
