To any new arrivals here on the fediverse - you are welcome here.
Any step one can make to move away from the domination of proprietary platforms, technologies and all kinds of billionaires and fascists, is a potentially good thing. Things might be confusing to you at first, as all change can be difficult. Things are definitely not perfect here either and the fediverse has its own set of problems, but there are many helpful and friendly communities here. I wish you that you find your people (and foxes, and cats etc)

I would also like to respectfully ask the people who moved here to refrain from calling yourself #TwitterRefugee or #RedditRefugee or anything like that. An alternative is simply saying that you left a certain platform, or moved away.
I would like to encourage you to learn more about what it is like to be a refugee, and if it is possible for you, consider donating to organizations that help refugees. One such example of an organization is: pah.org.pl/en/ukraine
Being a refugee is tied to a lot of harship and severe trauma, to put it mildly, and using this word to describe changing social media platforms is not adequate.

@Ivory 🤞An IPad app for Threads🧵?
Some web developers have moved on to make clients for other platforms. For instance, the makers of Tweetbot created Ivory for Mastodon. But Threads, with its nearly 100 million monthly active users, is a particularly green pasture compared to Mastodon, Bluesky, & all the other X alternatives that have come along recently.

The Verge · Threads third-party app support could become a realityBy Wes Davis

Replied in thread

New instance & #introduction: Hi. I am a freelance economist (hired as a consultant) with an interest professionally and personally in public policy that improves public wellbeing/welfare — it's not a fixed size pie, nor is it infinite; with effort, we can make things better. I was a #twitterRefugee, but this place is a fine home, now — lots of news & a way to scan topical literature. I try to get outside every day — it helps. So does #running! Often post #photos. More in my header/profile.

I haven't been in Twitter for awhile and I'm pushing a big fundraiser so figured it's a waste of resources to not push there, while I still have access to it.

But in this time I was away, owner of the platform has gone from "I pretend to support Ukraine" to full "I'm gonna spread russian propaganda openly and try to get you all killed by withdrawing support"

For the love of God, please try to get your friends to switch to whatever, even Threads will be better at this point.
