This hawthorn tree is well ahead of the rest. In full bloom and has the most wonderful scent. An animal pungency? (Crataegus monogyna).

A mass of pure white blossom, no pink hint as there sometimes is on hawthorn. The single flowers have five petals and long stamens. Each petal is shaped like the concave side of a spoon

The weather forecast was wildly wrong. We had lots of warm sunshine. Finally, an Orange-tip butterfly posed for a while, tempted by ground ivy.

A white butterfly which has the appearance of having been partially dipped upside down into tangerine paint. The pile lilac flowers it is drinking from are very common but up close every bit as beautiful as the very similar Streptocarpus

17/04/2025 - It had felt a long day at work. Folk seemed grumpy and my mood was low. 5pm and instead of heading straight home I took a slow walk round the car park for 30mins to see what wild flowers were growing in the cracks. There was a really nice mix and it proper cheered me up.

Petty Spurge - Not had these before, uncommon up here, very nice.
Springbeauty - I like these.
Parsley-piert - another new one for me.
Changing Forget-me-not - Just look at the spiral! Wonderful.

Petty Spurge - What a great name, I might start using it as an insult to folk who annoy me! It's a little green plant with no colourful flowers really. Bit of red on the stems. It's growing where the pavement meets a wall.

Springbeauty or Miner's lettuce. A small plant with tiny white flowers in the middle of green leaves. Growing by the side of a tree in the pavement.

Parsley-piert (not slender I think). Low green plant with fan like leaves. My eyes couldn't see what would be called flowers on it at the moment. I wish I was better at describing flowers and stuff. I'm not good with words.

The wonderful spiral of Changing Forget-me-not. Bottom two flowers are yellow.

Bluebells and dandelions in the grass meadow under an ornamental cherry tree.
The perceived weeds, self-sown dandelions and daisies, are loved by the #insects and an important part of my understanding of gardening, which is to invite #nature into the #garden.

Bluets, Appalachian Trail, PA (2015)

Bluets or Quaker ladies, as some call them, growing on the trail.

" This small, delicate perennial is found growing in compact tufts, 8 in. high. The plants may cover broad expanses. Tiny flowers are pale blue with yellow centers, tubular, four-lobed, solitary, and terminal. Spatula-shaped leaves occur in basal rosettes. Stem leaves are small and the stems are unbranched.
This lovely, delicate, flowering plant is often found in striking patches of light blue." - Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center

These were growing on the Appalachian Trail in eastern Pennsylvania. There are fallen leaves from the previous autumn all around.
