Having to learn how to program is gatekeeping, because average people who aren't nerdy and don't know computer code like they've been writing it for years won't be able to make programs to help them without paying super cash like $1000 plus to get someone to do the work for them, so if AI becomes good enough to do real code that works, I'm all for it. #AI, #Coding, #Programming

Okay. Hear me out. But what has AI or GenAI *genuinely* made better?

I'll concede translations and even some brainstorming.

But where has it enabled us to do things that we couldn't do before?

I don't mean "cheaper and worse replacement for a human", but, like, genuinely make humanity better off.

(Also, I refer to the common use of "AI"; I know that ML runs circles around humans for complex optimization problems.)

So, #Meta has put #AI into #WhatsApp. And their FAQ regarding #privacy/#confidentiality of your messages are *very* contradictory:

"Only messages that mention @MetaAI, or that people choose to share with Meta AI, can be read by Meta. Meta can’t read any other messages in your personal chats.

As always, your personal messages and calls are protected with end-to-end encryption, meaning no one outside of the chat, not even WhatsApp or Meta, can read, listen to, or share them."

Of course, the former is correct, the latter only applies (in the best case) only to messages not mentioning their AI chatbot.

Looks like the latter paragraph has just been added to confuse non-technical users and make them cast away doubts.

Ninguna IA "toma decisiones".

Hard to see Zucherberg's Meta improving it's already low image, or that of Generative AI, by this move. They just don't care, this is deliberate theft to help recoup the $$$Bn on building capability greater than any realistic revenue model.

Another good reason to turn off training permissions in any AI tool use with family history documents and source mages. But I still wouldn't trust Meta.

Elections are a moment when power most clearly shifts from the elected back to the electorate. Careful reflection is a duty.
During this federal election in Canada, has any Canadian political party articulated a plan to regulate artificial intelligence (AI) while there is time?
