@ascentale @PamelaSchure @bikenite A2. I’ve lost a chain twice. The first time was a long walk home, the second time I got a ride. Oh, and twice I got a flat that I couldn’t repair (forgot my pump, pump failed), so two more long walks home.

The time I crashed, I was able to straighten things out sufficiently to bike home (injuries were compatible with continued biking).

@ascentale @bikenite A1. Santa Clara, CA. A1b. I have heard of 30 days of biking, and several years ago I did actually ride everyday for a month. However for me it is not such a great idea. A lot of pressure to do something I enjoy. I’m not down for that these days. In fact I just changed my routine to take Saturdays off as my Fridays tend to be a pretty intense workout. This way I’m more rested for an enjoyable ride on Sunday. Also if I “have” to ride that can prevent me from doing other all day activities that day.

But if it motivates just one person to get up and moving and make a habit out of it, then yeah!

@edd @gcvsa @ascentale @bikenite excessively tall lift kits can be illegal. In California, the legal limit for headlights is 54". Whether that's the headlight and or high beam, whether that is the top, bottom, or center, I don't know. That's chest high on me, at 6 ft. Next problem is getting your local police to care enough to issue tickets. #BikeNite

@ascentale @MartyCormack @bikenite A8 #BikeNite I've quit racing (circuit and 'cross) while British Cycling take money from fossil fuel companies. I may give that another go if or when the deal ends.
Perhaps controversially, I have little time for eMTB-ing. I'm tired of seeing trails being chewed up by more power than is natural being put down in inappropriate locations, and cyclists using them to try and ride trails way beyond their riding ability.

@ascentale @bikenite A1 #BikeNite Posting from Ventura County, CA. I hadn't formally heard of 30 days of biking, but was starting to see some related posts. Maybe I should have kept my streak going. I went 11 days in a row until yesterday between MTB coaching and doing 2 days of trail work where we use ebikes to get out to remote trails. The MTB team had a scavenger hunt event last weekend and I used my ebike to set out and pick up tokens at various locations for the team groups to find. I needed a day off from strenuous rides, but I could have done something easy.

@ascentale @bikenite A1: posting from San Francisco this morning on a plane. (Eco-cred =0) I have not heard of #30daysofbiking. I do take on challenges. This month, I’ve been sick, so I’m struggling to get in enough walking steps to keep my monthly challenge alive. Nothing like forcing yourself outside for a walk with your head spinning. I can’t wait to be more settled (and healthy) so any 30-day challenge is feasible. #bikenite

@ascentale @bobjonkman @bikenite A7. #BikeNite I never reset the odometer on my ebike, even when I bought it used. I also don't look at it much. I think it is in the thousands and had over 1k when I bought it.

I use my garmin watch to track exercise and MTB team rides and that connects to Strava, which also keeps track of miles and lots of other things. I look at my stats now and then, but more out of vague interest than trying to achieve any sort of goal. Coaching has me put in a lot of miles. 1,100 so far this year.

#Bikenite ... issues and scaled back the plan. They followed all the best practices for environmental integrity and close the park when it is wet and erosion could occur. It is my perception that mountain biking can be done in an environmentally conscious way, especially on well planned, well constructed courses. While I'm sure there are some that free lance it in the wild, most of it occurs on courses specifically constructed for the purpose. Is that not the standard? 2/2

#BikeNite Follow-up
So last evening at least two posters expressed concerns about mountain biking's exploitation or destruction of environmentally sensitive places. Is that a well held perception among those who don't mountain bike? It is interesting because I recently voted in favor of the installation of a mountain bike track in an overgrown and underutilized park. The NIMBY neighbors objected on environmental grounds, but the proponents had an environmental study, and mitigated the ... 1/2

@ascentale
A2: Yes. Last week.
I went for some laps in local park with some other parents from school (we are training for a charity ride - link pinned on my profile if you want to give).

I was following someone and hear a weird noise. I thought: is someone using an ebike? Then I realised that the quick release lever for my front wheel (usually pointing up) had moved. It had come loose and was coming of with vibration.

Skewed it back on and all good now
