What are the largest global trading economies? The USA's share of global trade? 9%
As the largest importer, those tariffs are gonna hurt people in the USA.

~~~
In 2019, the top-five largest trading economies in terms of share of global trade were the European Union, the United States, China, Japan and the United Kingdom (UK).
Considering EU member states individually, China was the largest exporter, while the United States was the largest importer. In goods trade, the United States was the largest importer and second-largest exporter (behind China). In services trade, the United States was both the largest importer and exporter.
The U.S. share of global goods trade has fallen over the past several decades—from 15% in 1970 to 9% in 2019—largely due to the rapid increase of global trade, especially among developing countries and emerging markets.
« Une guerre commerciale tarifaire frapperait l'économie étatsunienne plus durement que la loi Smoot-Hawley, car le commerce représente aujourd'hui une part du PIB trois fois plus importante qu'en 1929, et 75% du PIB en 2024 - contre environ 6% en 1929 ».
Prime Minister Mark Carney said Thursday that Canada will match U.S. President Donald Trump’s 25% auto tariffs with a tariff on vehicles imported from the United States. Trump's previously announced 25% tariffs on auto imports took effect Thursday. The prime minister said he told Trump last week in a phone call that he would be retaliating for those tariffs.
