New aerial surveillance footage obtained by the Southern #Environmental Law Center has found that Musk's #artificialIntelligence company, xAI, is using 35 #methane #gas generators to power its "Colossus" #supercomputer facility, the backbone of its flagship #Grok. That's 20 more generators than the 15 #xAI filed permits for, and 35 more than it was approved to use. #dataCenters #ai #musk #climate #law

I was listening to an NPR radio discussion about the problems areas are having with new massive #DataCenters designed for #AI processing. The issues come down to water for cooling and incredibly amounts of power needed. I had an idea that may have been discussed already but it seemed new to me.
#NiagaraFalls. The #US and #Canada each setup a large area near the Falls to house the data centers. Mandate that this is where all AI will be processed. There is plenty of water. Each country will create a dedicated grid for their area that has its own turbines. The companies located at these areas will pay for the power and water.
This seems like it would be a good #ClimeteSolution. Of course not using AI would be the best option but that ship has sailed.
Problem solved?
Electricity Demands of AI Data Centers to Double by 2030: IEA Report https://www.ecowatch.com/ai-data-centers-electricity-demands.html

"New aerial surveillance footage obtained by the Southern Environmental Law Center has found that Musk's artificial intelligence company, xAI, is using 35 methane gas generators to power its "Colossus" supercomputer facility, the backbone of its flagship Grok. That's 20 more generators than the 15 xAI filed permits for, and 35 more than it was approved to use.
The data center, nestled in historic south Memphis, came online last September, despite protests from community leaders. AI data centers are notoriously loud, and hog water and electricity like a mid-sized American city. Case in point, the local utility company, Memphis Light, Gas and Water (MLGW) estimates the Memphis facility will soon be sucking up one million gallons of water per day, as well as 150 megawatts of power, once it reaches its full power.
Though the MLGW says it's "executed four standard electric service agreements, one water service, and one gas service agreement" with xAI — totaling 50 megawatts of power — Musk says the facility needs much more due to rapid power fluctuations in his system of 10 to 20 megawatts at a time.
But getting approval for that kind of power is a slow and cautious process, according to Bloomberg, as rapid data center construction runs up against the limits of what civilian power grids can provide. Never one to wait for approval, Musk has chosen instead to exploit a loophole in local regulations, which seemingly allow him to park a fleet of toxic methane generators outside his facility as long as they don't sit in the same location for 364 days."
"It sounds like something from a science fiction movie, but Stephen Eisele is confident that one day his company will open a data centre on the Moon.
'The way we see it is that by putting the data centre in space, you're really offering unparalleled security,' says the president of Lonestar Data Holdings.
Last month, the Florida-based firm claimed to have successfully tested a tiny data centre the size of a hardback book that hitched a ride to the Moon on the Athena Lunar Lander from US space exploration firm Intuitive Machines. This, in turn, had been launched by a rocket from Elon Musk's SpaceX.
Data centres are the vast warehouses that house stacks of computers that store and process data used by websites, companies and governments.
Lonestar says that putting them on the Moon will offer customers secure, reliable data processing, while taking advantage of unlimited solar energy to power them."
