I don't normally manage #TheWinter10 for #WildflowerHour but in #Dawlish on new year's eve for the BSBI #NewYearPlantHunt I recorded 30! Plus Common Rue, which I was hoping for, did flower but a few days after the deadline. Most of the species I saw were either invasives or garden escapes. These 4 are Wall Bellflower, "Sour Fig" (no, I'm not using the usual English name), Osteospermum sp and Hebe (Veronica sp). #Devon #Bloomscrolling #botany #plants #flowers #wildflowers #photography

Wall Bellflower with a cluster of glossy green leaves in a crack in a wall. There are purple bell-shaped flowers.
A plant whose usual English name I'm not going to use on here. Pink flowers with lots of very-thin petals and succulent leaves. Known as Sour Fig in its native South Africa, but it isn't a fig.
Garden variety Osteospermums, growing so densely they look like a flower-bed. But this is waste ground by a railway line.
A shrub with glossy green eaves and clusters of purple flowers which look a bit like speedwells if you look closely.

Beware, this is going to be a long thread...

My standard longer #bike ride is a 30 km round trip to #Starcross, which is #village on the west coast of the #ExeEstuary on the way to #Dawlish. The ride is motor-traffic-free for a goo 80% of the distance. It's also through a lot of #countryside and it's my intention to photograph some of the #trees through all the seasons. However, this set contains a little more for your edification.

#Ukweather #Dawlish February 2023 was an exceptionally dry month with only one day when rain was over 1mm. Despite a number of frosty nights the mean temperature for the month was about a degree above the 30 year (1961-2010) average.
Feb 2023 Av temp 7.3C Max 16 on 16th. Min -2.5C 8th. 8 nights with frost possible ground frost on as many at 17 nights. Rainfall total 6mm only 1 day with 1mm or more of rain. Highest 5mm on 21st. Around 25 days with no recorded rain. Pressure unusually high
