I created an #X account because I wanted to have more reach for my crowdfunding campaign(cr8r.gg/@farooqkz/114295543059). But then I greatly regretted my registration on the platform.

The problem's not just that it recommends these people on the top. The problem's also that it requires following at least 1. But it doesn't provide search feature in this window so I can easily find the one I want to follow myself. The only way is scrolling.

I was never more confident that decentralization advocates, including cash and messenger, must have decentralized platforms such as Fediverse and Mastodon as their primary channel.

Hello! I have started a flipstarter crowdfunding campaign to launch a #Persian website to promote and teach Bitcoin Cash.

The website is currently here:

The flipstarter is here and I have explained everything in details:

The #CoSocialist Future
tbray.org/ongoing/When/202x/20

An interesting article about cosocial.ca/ by @timbray - If you're interested in running community services, you should read it.

They take Canadian paying customers only (50 Can$), got 200 ppl after 2y and will hire their first paid employee soon.

Shameless plug:
info.graz.social is also providing paid memberships which supports efforts to educate the masses about #Fediverse and #decentralization for people in and around #Graz (and I'm part of @wir). Meet us at #GLT25 on April 26: linuxtage.at/en/

Consider a membership or a donation to your team of choice that runs a #communityservice! 🙇

Make no mistake: #ProtectEU is an overreach that can't be justified when held up to the standard of the #decentralization pee l principle.

Imagine starting a post office, but instead of it being illegal to unseal envelopes, you instead have an assembly line of police that opens each letter and makes notes.

Could you imagine? If the US and the EU get their way, that's what we'll get.

The Register · EU: These are scary times – let's backdoor encryption!By Iain Thomson

"Turns out what drives and sustains #decentralizedsocialmedia is not hype, but a sense of #community and the possibility to have some real #agency in one’s social media experience. This #decentralization and sense of community allows #Fediverse to survive even if individual instances disappear."

Songs on the Security of Networks · Eight years on, Mastodon stubbornly survives

Before the modern internet, Bulletin Board Systems (BBS) were the backbone of online communication. Emerging in the late 1970s, BBSes were text-based systems accessed via dial-up modems, where users could post messages, share files, and even play primitive online games. These digital meeting places became hubs for underground communities, tech enthusiasts, hackers, and early software distribution networks.

Despite being largely replaced by the web, BBSes never truly died. Today, a dedicated community keeps them alive using telnet and modern technology, ensuring that the spirit of decentralized, independent online spaces lives on. Whether through retro computing nostalgia, hacker culture, or a desire for an internet free from corporate control, BBSes continue to thrive in small but passionate circles.

I said it before on Mastodon. I'm reposting this again. Comparing #DeltaChat and #Matrix together, if you want hassle free and consistent messenger for private #E2EE chats, don't go for Matrix. DeltaChat is way better.

However, if you want something like a public forum, or a public chatroom, don't go for DeltaChat. Matrix is way better suited for that. And DeltaChat does not support public groups at all. In DeltaChat groups, there is no admin or moderator and everyone have got permission to remove or add the others.

I think I have to write a longer post on my personal blog about these two, comparing them together.

PS: Another Matrix encryption bug few minutes ago triggered repost of this.

🚀 Fresh off the press! I’ve just received the printed edition of 'Disinformation and Risk Society. What is at Stake with the Proliferation of Information Disorders', a collective effort to dissect the complexities of today’s information landscape. And guess what? The Fediverse takes center stage in my contribution!

In my chapter, 'Fediverse: Decentralised and Interoperable Networks in Times of Disinformation', I explore how this decentralized, community-driven ecosystem is reshaping the digital public sphere. While centralized platforms struggle with disinformation and algorithmic manipulation, the Fediverse offers a radical alternative—one built on transparency, user autonomy, and federation protocols like ActivityPub.

🔍 Key topics I explore:

🔹 The roots and evolution of decentralized online social networks (DOSNs).
🔹 The Musk Effect—how Elon Musk’s Twitter takeover fueled a migration wave to Mastodon.
🔹 The promise (and challenges) of community-driven moderation.
🔹 How the Fediverse can empower ethical, independent journalism in an era of algorithmic chaos.

This book is part of the IBERIFIER project, funded by the European Commission, and brings together top researchers tackling disinformation from multiple angles.

A huge thanks to the editors and fellow contributors for making this project a reality!
