Further attempts while diagnosing the compressor show: We don't have enough power for this thing, at least not at the end of the 2.5mm² extension cord I run from the kitchen.

So I can cut up to ~5mm and any more causes too much voltage drop and the torch starts flickering.

I tried with the 3300W generator and that goes into overload after a few seconds at 40A. It cut 10mm plow share for a few seconds, so the machine is ok.

We'll have to sort out the power situation first.

A rusty, bent and broken piece of old plow share that has served as plasma cutting test piece. Various slag and exposed metal areas have been burnt into and through it, revealing dark slag colours and bright steel and for some reason one bright orange dot of angry rust. A few holes go all the way through the 10mm thick steel.

Checked out the compressor. The pressure switch wasn't the problem, but at least it's adjusted now. And the PRV tested 😤

Looks like the motor capacitor is getting lazy. Not unusual, but a bit annoying given that this thing is maybe a year old and not used heavily.

Perhaps they used the wrong element. SeaKnight instead of AirKnight :blobcatdizzy:

Jemand eine Idee, wie ich mir eine GSM-Alarmenlage für den Garten Low-Budget selbst basteln könnte? Vielleicht ein Mobiltelefon mit Ladekabel im Garten deponieren, darauf dann mit einer Pre-Pay-Karte günstig WLAN und andere Alarm-Systeme, die sich ins WLAN einloggen und mich übers Privathandy informieren können, dazu kaufen? My kid's phone battery puffed up while on vacation. I had to get creative and deliver a replacement a few stops away. I wish these things were easier to replace. It's not fun trying to remove a puffy battery worrying about "thermal runaway". It's like the modern version of bomb defusing 😬

Now I have to find a place that will accept the old battery 🙄

Day 29: Exhaust manifolds went back on no problem. I also replaced the downstream O2 sensors, which will be pretty inaccessible once the engine's back in the car; I should probably just go ahead and replace the fronts, too—according to my records, they're nearly 65,000 miles old. Some art we just did on recycled fabric! My good friend @deflectric sketched the pollen bee, and did all the dandelion block printing. I hand painted xtra brutal details on the bee.

Will be showing these off at SLUTFEST and Plants For The People at Durham/Raleigh, NC this weekend.
