'Pond life' is sometimes used as an insult applied to particularly contemptible people but I feel that this is unfair to actual pond-dwelling creatures which, by contrast, are mostly harmless and frequently fascinating lifeforms.
Frogspawn is a case in point. You can see that our tiny garden pond is full of the stuff. Zoom in and you can tell that the embryos are starting to elongate towards the shape of a tadpole.

Given how bonkers the cats went when they found a single frog in the pond, this is likely to drive them wild.
Yay, found my first lot of #frogspawn this morning. I thought it wasn't going to happen this year as it's late for SE England.

Spring is here, and I'm being serenaded by singing frogs. Here are six things from my garden for #SixOnSaturday

Ponds and puddles UK-wide start to fill with frogspawn in early spring – the ideal spot being shallow, well-vegetated and partially shaded. Frogs often return to breed at the pond where they were spawned, but while they lay vast numbers of eggs in jelly-like clusters, only about one in 50 will survive to become adults. The young fall prey to everything from dragonfly larvae and newts to water boatmen, birds and hedgehogs.

Would somebody tell them it’s only January yet?
They’re at it earlier than ever here on the sanctuary.
Can’t be up to those frogs!
Couldn’t even wait to get to the pond.

It’s always fascinating to get a glimpse of #frogspawn from below the water
This was shot on iPhone in the #PondZone at #WWTCastleEspie.
I don’t recommend dunking your expensive #smartphone in a pond but mine has survived worse
We have lots of frogspawn in the pond but I just found a little bit quite far from the pond. Should I rescue it or is it something else?? #frogs #frogspawn

Frog spawn developing in the puddles and ponds all around. What were perfectly round black dots just over a week ago have begun to elongate and grow their tails.

I suppose if I lived in Alabama these would be frogs now, and the fact most of them will be eaten by the pond fish the subject of a wildlife crime...
Delighted to see that, once again, our #garden #pond is full of #frogspawn
