Christmas came early this year! MacStadium is significantly increasing their investment into Open Source with a new sponsorship agreement that provides #Inkscape with access to their Orka cluster solution. I've had my onboarding today and spent some time playing with my fancy new toys. Exciting!

Help wanted! 🛟

#Inkscape community member @dopelover recently contributed a set of shortcuts that mimics that of #Illustrator CC 2024, but it needs a larger userbase to test it before merging.

If you're (or you know someone) familiar with Illustrator, please go to the forum page and follow the instructions to get the new keyboard shortcuts file for testing there:

Thanks for your testing!

OK that's basically done... I had to refactor #inkscape's test suite so it could test the new cmyk output properly and in doing so found a way to have cmake test things with proper fixtures, and have much better and more consistent testing scripts.

Let's hope the merge request review is kind...

Wicked Wonderful Wordies - #wordplay #wordies #idiom

Happy weekend from here, #puzzle fans!

Idioms or common phrases (American/English) are represented by the position, shape or arrangement of words in or around the puzzle frame.

Can you figure out this week's wordie? It would be wicked wonderful if you can.

Please use CW to submit your answers, thanks. Give everybody the chance to guess.

FOSS NEWS

Mozilla launches Thundermail, a Gmail alternative email service with @thundermail email addresses, and Thunderbird Pro, which includes appointment scheduler, file sharing tools, and AI-powered features (Thunderbird Assist):

(POV it will be killed off after a short time like other Mozilla products lol. There's already Proton Mail, a privacy-focused mail service from a company with a better track record, more than 100 million users, also Tuta for those who don't mind it not being fully FOSS, so I don't really think Thundermail has a shot here, but nice try regardless, at least they try to have some source of income other than Google.)

Firefox 137 released with HEVC playback support on Linux, ability to identify all links in PDF files and turn them into hyperlinks, new options in the Browser Layout section under General settings (vertical tabs, show sidebar); some progressively rolled out features: sign PDF documents, calculator feature for address bar (now you don't have to open the Console tab of dev tools for that lol), tab grouping:

Firefox 138 beta available new contrast control (same colors for all websites) setting, support for copying links for background tabs using the tabstrip context menu on Linux and macOS, more tab grouping features, new “Report broken site” feature, etc.:

Midori browser gets new ad blocker (Astian Privacy, also available for other Firefox-based browsers), VPN service (utilizing WireGuard, with OpenVPN support planned), search engine AstianGO now has its own indexing:

Inkscape 1.4.1 released with new splash screen, close button added to welcome dialog, collapsible groups in more toolbars, bug fixes and improvements:

Cuando algo te sorprende te encariñas y comienzas a hablar de aquello.

Eso me pasó con GNU Guix y hoy he dedicado un tiempito para hacer una pequeña infografía y espero seguir aportando en algo con este gran Sistema Operativo.

El diseño lo he realizado en Guix mismo con la ayuda de Inkscape y Gimp.

También he publicado un par de videos en mi canal de Peertube.

El diseño queda subido en nuestro repositorio en Codeberg, los links en el sitio web libretics.org

#inkscape's test suite thinks a 12dpi PDF should have a few hundred pixels per inch. While my new CMYK PDF code thinks there should be 14 blocks in this 1.25 inch tall reference file.

Which is right? 😂 The DPI setting for PDF export must have been broken for a long time if the test suite has been wrong since 2020-10-28 (I know because it's in the reference PDF file when it was created)
