Remembering Anne (Dudley) Bradstreet for International Women's
Day.

Many Americans will know that Anne was America's first poet to get into print, and in a big way too. What is not so widely known is Anne was probably born in , England in 1612, the daughter of Thomas Dudley and Dorothy Yorke (married at Hardingstone, in 1603). The Dudleys were a family.

I’m related to Elizabeth Taylor, not the actress, but a non-conformist born on 10 March 1735 in Westminster, London. Elizabeth and her husband John Teek were founder members of the Countess of Huntington’s Connexion, a society founded in 1783 by Selina Hastings, Countess of Huntington (pictured). Non-conformism is a strong trait in my family.

"Every society honors its live conformists, and its dead troublemakers."

~ from The Neurotic’s Notebook: How to be anxious, hostile, and defensive while loving every miserable minute of it
by Mignon McLaughlin, 1963

This quip is charming. But besides the blanket statement "every society," there are plenty of past troublemakers who are forgotten; sometimes for good reasons. Anyway, the book title is a clue to what she really believed.

Well, the ancestry-researching family members now tell me we’re descended from the last ever #Lollard burned at the stake and at least one other, slightly earlier.  Troublemakers, always.

But it’s a little weird to find myself wondering whether they would be proud of me as a fellow #nonconformist , or would have hated me as a heretic and various words they didn’t have back then, like some other religous people have.  Or maybe, just maybe, some things weren’t distinctly reified then... 😶

I appear to be in a minority of folks I run into (work, radio, online, etc.) who has more doubts than enthusiasm about AI. But, then, I almost always am. ("Pandemic? There's not going to be a pandemic, you're paranoid... Red Flag warning and wildfires? Why do you worry about that stuff?... Climate change? Why are you worried about that?) #nonconformist
