Sunday morning, I finally went to a zendo here in Nantes. I hadn't been in a zendo/temple/monastery in around ten or eleven years (though I've kept up an off and on practice throughout ). It was such a lovely experience. And an interesting one too. Buddhism transforms itself in every cultural context and France is no exception. It was interesting to see differences in practice between here and the US. And it reignited something in me. I don't know what.

Anne #Dyer - the Scottish #Episcopal Church's Bishop of #Aberdeen and Orkney- has given a radio interview in which she says she's trying to "rebuild trust" with her diocese. She returned from suspension last October when the denomination's procurator decided there wasn't enough evidence for a #church trial over #bullying accusations, and despite 4 of the other 6 bishops calling on her to step down

In #ChampagneProblems, #religion edition. This is not really new. Churches have been offering some form of electronic pay option for a good while now. Not sure why this is a story now.

ZoomWelcome! You are invited to join a webinar: Power Half-Hour for Gaza: Channel grief & outrage into action to stop a genocide. After registering, you will receive a confirmation email about joining the webinar. Now into the second year of genocide in Gaza, we are overwhelmed with sorrow and outrage. There are no words to describe the devastating pain of the past year in which the Israeli military has killed over 48000 Palestinians in Gaza, including more than 20,000 children. We know these numbers are not accurate - thousands more are being found under the rubble and so many more will perish due to lack of treatment, medicine, food, water and shelter. The International Court of Justice and the International Criminal Court have both declared that Israel must stop the genocidal acts being committed on the Palestinian people. And the U.S. government is actively supporting the Israeli military as it wreaks devastation on the over 2 million Palestinians in Gaza threatening the fragile ceasefire agreement. Amnesty International, Human Rights Watch, and B'Tselem have declared that Israel is committing genocide against the Palestinian people of Gaza. We continue to come together as a political community in our daily half-hour to take action for the 15 months and going forward we will continue Monday through Thursday. Join us as we take collective action to demand an arms embargo to Israel, immediate end to the genocide, a lasting ceasefire and an end to Israeli siege, apartheid, occupation, and oppression of Palestinians and Lebanon. All are welcome. All are needed.

The review, by #JohnPsmith of #RossDouthat's new book defending #religion, quotes #GKChesterton:

"The believers in miracles accept them (rightly or wrongly) because they have evidence for them. The disbelievers in miracles deny them (rightly or wrongly) because they have a doctrine against them it is you rationalists who refuse actual evidence being constrained to do so by your creed."

(#Miracles are only a small section of the review, but it's suitable for short extracts.)

"In this respect our society is a bit like a communist one, where the entire ruling class adheres strictly to a certain dogma and everybody else quietly pretends to believe it while actually disbelieving it, because it clashes profoundly with their direct experience of the world. Disenchantment is official but virtual. The official encouragement and recognition of miracles stopped, but the miracles kept pouring in."
