Das liegt einerseits daran, dass ich offline gespielt habe. Das mag ich ja gerne und deshalb hoffe ich bald, wieder <a href="https://nrw.social/tags/boardgames" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#boardgames</a> live zu spielen. Es waren online viele <a href="https://nrw.social/tags/18xx" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#18xx</a> gewesen, alle auf 18xx.games gespielt (neben root). Toll waren von den neuen Spielen: #1894 und <a href="https://nrw.social/tags/TOP1871" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#TOP1871</a> . 1894 erlaubt den Austausch von Plättchen ohne Wege beizubehalten. Zu TOP schreibe ich noch was. Schön und narrativ.Auf den ersten Blick ist <a href="https://pegasusshop.de/sortiment/rollenspiele-buecher-comics/buecher/17708/root-das-rollenspiel-grundregelwerk" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Root</a> ein Spiel in der Kategorie und Tradition von Mouseguard, <a href="https://penandpaper.blog/mausritter-deutsch-rezension/" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Mausritter,</a> Everdell und <a href="https://penandpaper.blog/humblewood-auf-deutsch-dnd/" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Humblewood</a>. Man spielt anthropomorphe Tierchen. Wobei ich Mousegard kaum kenne, Mausritter OSR ist, Everdell ein Aufbau-Brettspiel und Humblewood nur ein Setting. Root hingegen ist ein komplettes Rollenspiel nach den Regeln von Powered by the Apocalypse (PbtA), das von Pegasus Spiele ins Deutsche übersetzt wurde.Allerdings kommt es paradox daher, weil die Niedlichkeit in ziemlichem Kontrast zur Fiesheit der Lore steht. Es ist als Brettspiel enstanden, das sich um Krieg und Machtausübung verschiedener Fraktionen dreht. In einem immerwährenden Bürgerkrieg bekämpfen sich verschiedene Gruppierungen und versuchen, die Oberhand zu gewinnen.Bild: Pegasus SpieleRandom TheseVielleicht liege ich damit falsch, aber ich habe das Gefühl, dass Humblewood als RPG-Version von Root, dem Brettspiel, gedacht war. Mit dem Unterbau des überaus populären D&D 5e. Bodenvolk als Proletariat und Vögel als arrogante Oberschicht? Nicht völlig abwegig und doch aussergewöhnlich, um gleich zweimal die Basis eines Spiels zu sein. Basis von Brettspiel Root und Rollenspiel Humblewood. Jetzt kommt allerdings Root mit seinem eigenen Rollenspiel daher.I am RootHier spielst du Hasen, Vögel, Füchse, Dachse, Mäuse, Eichhörnchen und Katzen. Alle bewaffnet mit Äxten, Knüppeln und Hämmern. Die Abenteurergruppe heisst hier Vagabundierende. Diese Vagabundierenden ziehen los, um die Unterdrücker im herrschenden Bürgerkrieg zu bekämpfen und erleben so zahlreiche Abenteuer in den verschiedenen Lichtungen.Eine Kritik, die ich schon über «Root – Das Rollenspiel» gelesen habe, ist dass das Setting etwas eingeschränkt ist. Alle Fraktionen sind nach Regelwerk-Definition gut und böse. Das bedeutet, dass das, was LotR und Star Wars so erfolgreich machte, hier total fehlt. Warum das so ist? Weil Root von einem Brettspiel abstammt, wo jede Fraktion, jeder Spieler, gut und sogleich böse sein kann. Und auch wenn das vielmehr der weltlichen Realität entspricht, verweigert es uns doch die <a href="https://penandpaper.blog/faszination-fantasy/" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Faszination der Fantasy</a>.Bild: Pegasus SpieleAlles drinPegasus Spiele liefert das Grundregelwerk, welches ein bisschen grösser als A5-Format ist und 256 Seiten umfasst, mit zwei Kartendecks und einem hübschen Würfelset. Einmal das Waldlandkartendeck und einmal das Ausrüstungsdeck. Das Waldlanddeck besteht aus den wichtigsten NSCs, wie Herzog Weisskralle, der Weisskopfseeadler oder Hauptfrau Hersilia, der Maulwürfin, die einen mächtigen Kriegshammer schwingt. Das Ausrüstungsdeck liefert Bild und Werte von Waffen sowie Regelerklärungen von Kampftechniken (Parieren, Heimtückischer Angriff, Ringen etc.). Das Würfelset enthält 14 sechsseitige Würfel. Je eines der sieben Würfelpaare trägt Farbe und Symbol einer Fraktion des Waldlandes. Sehr hübsch!Fühlt sich modern anRoot ist ein Erzählrollenspiel, was die PbtA-Regeln unterschreiben und unterstreichen. Es ist logisch gegliedert und aufbauend erklärt. Die Spielleitung würfelt nicht, was ich ohnehin selten tue, aber dennoch schade finde. Ich will auch Würfel! Bei Root wird auch schön gegendert. Ich weiss, manche sind da allergisch drauf, ich finde das nur korrekt. Daher heisst es auch «Vagabundierende».FazitRoot gefällt mir eigentlich sehr. Es ist hübsch, es ist storylastig, es ist konfliktreich, es enthält Tiercharaktere. Ja, aber warum dann nur «eigentlich»? Weil Root eben doch etwas weniger hübsch ist, als mein geliebtes Humblewood. Weil es als Regelwerk PbtA verwendet, mit dem ich immer noch nicht warm geworden bin. Und weil es sich mit den Abläufen und Spielzügen und Ressourcen und Lichtungen immer noch etwas nach Brettspiel anfühlt.Das heisst im Umkehrschluss: Wenn du PbtA-Fan bist, dann ist Root für dich. Wenn du auch Brettspiele magst, dann ist Root für dich. Ich gestehe: Zu fünft klappt es gut, wenn man darauf achtet, dass es einen Vagabunden gibt. Sonst ist es zu heftig und kaum möglich Punkte zu machen und das Spiel ist langsamer. Wir spielten mit folgenden Fraktionen: Maulwürfe, Vagabund, Ratten, Dachsen und Krähen. Ich habe mal bewusst Ratten genommen, obwohl ich wusste, dass es zu fünft schwer wird. 8/10
