Even though it was a chilly, gray day, I’m glad I participated in the Hands Off rally/protest today. It took place near the NOAA building on the NOAA/NIST campus here. The campus is home to several US science organizations that have been targets of senseless, devastating personnel and budget cuts, such as the National Weather Service, the Space Weather Center, US atomic clocks, and more. There is so much vital and amazing science happening at this campus — earsing and destroying it is beyond tragic.

A large, unassuming, low-profile building with several wings, constructed of local red sandstone, sitting in an open space meadow with greening grasses and dotted with a few, mostly bare trees. The Flatirons rock formations and two mountain peaks, covered with a fresh coating of spring snow, serve as a beautiful backdrop behind the building, under broken, mostly cloudy skies on a chilly April afternoon.
