There is a regular art history narrative of the recovery of a woman's reputation & work from the previous wife-of-artist-X depiction....
this week it is the wonderful work of Tirzah Garwood (subject of an exhibition at the Dulwich Picture Gallery from next month).... enjoy.
Just a reminder that even before there was generative AI, we still had weird-looking pictures. It just was more effort to find them.
Some weird animals, from the archives of the (US) National Library of Medicine's History of Medicine division.

Whoa. Has anyone been to the East Bay Print Sale before?
https://www.eastbayprintsale.com/
I showed up hoping to browse, and found a line two blocks long. It’s apparently an hour and a half to get in.
Who knew woodcut/riso prints were the hottest ticket in town?
I clearly need to come back first thing in the morning.
Maurits Cornelis Escher (1898 – 1972) Bird Fish, 1938.

Mixed my #pyrography up with my #tarot cards today. Making some card holders covered in this freehand, intricate pattern work I enjoy doing so much. They take around 4 hours to make. I’ll put them in my shop once I finish a few more & rest my thumb a bit.
When were you people planning to tell me about José Francisco Borges, and about Brazilian cordel literature? I got like three jobs, two kids, and my head up my ass. I need you to help me out. #CordelLiterature #Woodcuts #Brazil

After some linocutting I decided in May of this year to set up five #woodcuts, to see if I would have a feel for it. I now have the results, and I am happy with them. I want to continue it, with better woodblocks, better paper… i will pursue it! Will start the new year with setting up a webshop for the prints
Here’s a little thread of my journey
Really happy with the result of my last woodcutprinting course.

A #RandomBookFind in a charity shop, A PRINCESS IN BERLIN (1980) by #ArthurRGSolmssen is a gem of a novel. Set in the chaotic Weimar period, it's a gripping read with fascinating characters. The illustrations and chapter headings heighten the reading experience.
"Laziness (La paresse)," Félix Vallotton, 1896.
A nude woman relaxes on a bed, reaching out to a playful cat. Vallotton was one of the Nabis, a school of art I love. This woodcut is a great example of the Nabi love of pattern and intimate scenes. This is the sort of lazing we all love to do.
