There is a regular art history narrative of the recovery of a woman's reputation & work from the previous wife-of-artist-X depiction....

this week it is the wonderful work of Tirzah Garwood (subject of an exhibition at the Dulwich Picture Gallery from next month).... enjoy.

The Guardian · How the forgotten art of Tirzah Garwood finally came to lightBy Rachel Cooke

Just a reminder that even before there was generative AI, we still had weird-looking pictures. It just was more effort to find them.

Some weird animals, from the archives of the (US) National Library of Medicine's History of Medicine division.

The rhino picture is, in fact, a whole THING.

After some linocutting I decided in May of this year to set up five #woodcuts, to see if I would have a feel for it. I now have the results, and I am happy with them. I want to continue it, with better woodblocks, better paper… i will pursue it! Will start the new year with setting up a webshop for the prints 🙂
Here’s a little thread of my journey

Really happy with the result of my last woodcutprinting course.
Two woodcutprints of a building (school around the corner) in the architecture style Amsterdamse School. The print on the left is in light-yellow, yellow, blue and dark red. The print on the right is in light-grey, blue, neon-pink and dark red. Printed at Grafische Werkplaats Amsterdam.

"Laziness (La paresse)," Félix Vallotton, 1896.

A nude woman relaxes on a bed, reaching out to a playful cat. Vallotton was one of the Nabis, a school of art I love. This woodcut is a great example of the Nabi love of pattern and intimate scenes. This is the sort of lazing we all love to do.

From the Philadelphia Museum of Art, Philadelphia, PA.
