Hello centrists.

Your sitting in the middle for the sake of sitting in the ‘middle’ (that used to be right wing), while sociopaths steal our future is a big part of why the present is shit.

Maybe stretch your legs?

Annie Radetzky

@urlyman I 'sit in the middle' because I find that politically that is where I'm most comfortable. There seems to be a view among some on the left that centrists are just left wingers with no backbone, but in reality I find left-politics as troubling as I find right-politics so I am in the centre by choice.

@Soupdragon @urlyman it depends. A lot of "leftists" assume that centrists are just right wingers who are afraid to be called out for their racist and classiest views. In the US it's a mix of crypto fascists trying to pull everyone to the right (and succeeding) and leftists who've given up on what they actually believe.

But the larger problem is that the dichotomy of "left vs right" is a lie. It's a collapsing of a multi-dimentional landscape in to one (or occasionally two) dimensions. The vast majority of people don't fall anywhere within this false binary, but we're expected to believe that all possible views can somehow be filtered in to one bucket or the other. I wonder how many people choose to be inbetween because they don't fit on the spectrum at all.

@SallyStrange @Soupdragon @urlyman "yes I think helping poor people is just as bad as wanting mass deportations. also one time I saw someone with weird pronouns and that was more than I could handle"

edit: ok lets be serious centrists don't mind mass deportations

@waitworry @SallyStrange @Soupdragon @urlyman

pfft, I personally think that most centrists are just right-wingers without the backbone to just *say* they don't feel marginalised people should be respected.

@neonsnake @waitworry @Soupdragon @urlyman It also just struck me: the presence of the word "comfortable."

I find it uncomfortable being an anarchist most of the time, but I remain so because that's what seems morally correct to me

@urlyman Yes. Some of those responses illustrate nicely why I'm troubled by left politics and remain glad I don't share that worldview!
