Some papers are necessarily difficult because they deal with difficult topics, but others are unnecessarily difficult. I wonder sometimes if top journals couldn't do a better job of pushing authors towards plainer language.

@SusiArnott Thanks. I'm not the person to write that sister piece. Ecology is far far outside my comfort zone. I'd like to read it though.
