I understand why #Instagram threatened #Pixelfed but I question the timing. I would not be surprised if #Facebook tries to delay the launch of @pixelfed upon #Apple & #Google Play app stores, respectively.

@dansup response did remind me of Captain Holden from #TheExpanse (yes, I love #SciFi shows!).
@darnell @pixelfed @dansup Instagram and Facebook are part of Meta, not “the metaverse”, that term was defined and in use long before Zuckerberg started using it. The term “metaverse” is worth fighting for, we cannot and should not grant him exclusiveness to it. If Zuckerberg names a company “Fedi” he shouldn’t be able to claim “fediverse” as his. Language and terminology matters.
@denspier @pixelfed @dansup The phrase Metaverse is already trademarked, so I am not worried about #Facebook “stealing it.”

It's OK to call #Meta’s products (#Instagram, #WhatsApp, & Facebook) #Metaverse.
@darnell @pixelfed @dansup trademarked for a game. Legit. Regardless we don’t have to give Facebook exclusiveness to the term. In the metaverse one can by definition move seamlessly between systems, sites, apps, worlds and whatnot. It’s the exact opposite of a corporate monoculture like Zuckerberg’s. No offense (loved the article) I just resent that lose “metaverse” to bloody Facebook.
@darnell @pixelfed @dansup You write what you like, Darnell, it’s your article, and your judgement. I just wanted to offer you another perspective. “verse” in any form to me suggest something that is more than one, something diverse yet connected. A universe, not a planet. “A protocol, not a platform”, to paraphrase @mmasnick.
