Migrated from Twitter to Mastodon but finding it hard to find the folks you used to follow?

Fedifinder can help. fedifinder.glitch.me

Cool tool for finding your old Twitter buddies that have moved to Mastodon (and what you can do on your Twitter account to help others find you here)

Please reblog/boost to spread the word. (Liking/Favouriting won’t help)

@gcluley Thanks for posting this. It is a good tool and I used it myself. Indeed I suggest people run it again the the future. I did that and it found more as more added information to their bios.

I am not boosting you only because I have posted about this myself and other similar tips to quite a lot to my followers and I need to tone that down and get back to talking about other stuff.

@ruari great to know it worked for you well. :) and yes I agree it will be something that would be smart to use again in a while as more folks share their mastodon details on the bird site.

@gcluley it does not work that way, you will be frustrated trying to find all your contacts here, cos you won't.

Start writing some content, be patient, build your bubble from the ground up. Eventually, you will find many new people, and some old friends along the way.

Threre is no need to rush! At least that's how I approach it. Good luck!

@gcluley we're all in the same boat. I kept my twitter profile picture to help, as well as adding the Mastodon handle to my twitter profile. Seeing new faces on here, which is nice.

@gcluley I think the bigger problem is not finding people, so much as they simply haven't crossed the border yet.

@ChocChipSec @gcluley you can re-run the tool and merge new people as they join.

@gcluley Thanks for the tip. I've tried this and imported the file. I hope I did it correctly! Not seen any followings added yet, but I think it's now processing in the background.

@gcluley I just used this and... it worked! I'm not sure why I'm surprised, but kudos.

@brianwc Thanks, but nothing to do with me. @Luca deserves all the plaudits.

@gcluley thank you for making this :)

@tre Not made by me! @Luca is the one to thank. :)

@gcluley die meisten sind auf einem anderen Server als ich, wir kann ich die Links trotzdem erfolgreich anklicken?

@Waldlaeuferin You should be able to import the results into your Mastodon account, and it will then follow them for you. :)

You'll find the import option in Mastodon if you navigate to Edit Profile > Import and Export > Import

@gcluley I don't know if I did something wrong, but I uploaded the .csv with ~180 people who I follow from Twitter, but they haven't been added to my following list here.

@posen Hmm. That's odd. It worked for me.

Sometimes it can take a while for your Mastodon server to catch up with the job depending on how busy it is with other stuff.

@posen Not sure if it has any bearing, but the bigger and busier Mastodon instances are chugging through large workloads. Queue delays can be significant for all sorts of operations, exacerbated by federation and many instances having to talk back and forth. Also, are you sure there were 180 target Mastodon accounts as opposed to 180 Twitter accounts scanned?

@gcluley thanks for that - can confirm it works perfectly - will run it again and merge new people as they join Mastadon.

@gcluley I actually like Debirdify better, but they both basically do the same thing. :)

@gcluley Wow, that worked like a charm. I’m not using the whole CSV because I want to weed out the trolls and shitposters,

@gcluley can't get it to work. Keeps timing out

Am I doing something wrong?

@gcluley What a great tool. Try it out later.

@Stripymoggie @gcluley Did you find out what Norton specifically said no to. I’m keeping my Twitter account for politics but I love it here & would like an easy way to find my Twitter followers here.

@Pineywoozle @gcluley It opened today without protest. From memory it said the link was "unsafe".

@gcluley Norton 360 blocked that as an unsafe site.

@gcluley it's saying twitter API is blocked for me?

@gcluley Thanks for sharing, that's a very helpful tool

@gcluley yes, yes, yes! A million times thank you...

@gcluley Is there a version of the tool that do not ask to access private information?

@gcluley Oh, that's cool! Now I just need to find my twitter password, so I can add my mastodon handle there 😅

@Twinfox @gcluley OMG same. The BT *had* a Google docs list that he managed to remove from my computer when he upgraded his gaming comp Pfffft

@gcluley really good ap to use. Hopefully I've imported all those that i could.

@gcluley loved the statue of the naked tax collector in Tampere

@gcluley and Finland has major tech that UK that others need. Low drop rivers producing green electricity. You don't need big drops. Bainbridge in Yorkshire uses it @CarolineLucas

@gcluley so we put in it Twitter login and what happens next?

@gcluley seems to just completely break when I login, guessing too much demand right now..

@gcluley oh hey, this thing actually works well. Thank you.

@gcluley Now twitter is banning people that include links to other social networks, so I guess we won't be able to find as much people because no one wants to include their mastodon user in the bio
