#ClimateDiary Just listened to this moving program on French wine making and the challenges of climate change (and falling demand). I knew quite a lot about climate change impacts but it’s something else to listen to a Bordeaux winemaker talk about how she lost everything in a 15min hailstorm.
Right at end in Languedoc:
“Why do you keep going?”
“Because it’s our life”

It's been happening quite a lot over the last few years and not just wine. Loss to drought, or flooding or hail storms. It gets a lot of coverage on French news.
I might also mention that French news and weather have been talking almost daily about climate change for quite a long time too. I think deniers are becoming less and less present.
@pvonhellermannn I live around the Finger Lakes in NY and some of us fancy we are a wine producing region. [similarities of geology and weather used to be an endowment for making Riesling]. Experts would lecture us on the history of wine making [thank the Romans]. Ten years ago the lecture would mention the "good problem" that French vintners dubbed the longer warmer growing seasons. More sugar was a good thing. Careful what you wish for.
