Joe Wynne 🌻 🚗 ⛰️<p><a href="https://mindly.social/tags/MusicWomenWednesday" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>MusicWomenWednesday</span></a> </p><p>LAKECIA BENJAMIN, five-time Grammy nominee, played at lunchtime today at the Savannah Music Festival. She said "I didn't know jazz happened this early." Yet from the start the show, it was like we were in a hurricane without any shelter. So intense. At one point she clapped so hard a bracelet exploded, sending beads flying.</p><p>🎷Check out her live content online (the NPR Tiny Desk Concert is good) and albums "Phoenix" and "Phoenix Reimagined", begun after she was almost killed in a car crash and told she may not play the sax again.</p><p>🎶 She has at least one other show to do here, but a more important part of the story, I think, is that she will lead a Jazz Academy Masterclass for students in 6th - 12th grades. Part of the festival is to being young people free to see and learn from some of the artists appearing. (One of the reasons I support it.)</p><p>🎇 Imagine what they can learn from unstoppable Lakecia.</p><p><a href="https://mindly.social/tags/Jazz" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Jazz</span></a> <a href="https://mindly.social/tags/SMF2025" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>SMF2025</span></a> <a href="https://mindly.social/tags/LakeciaBenjamin" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>LakeciaBenjamin</span></a></p>
Joe Wynne 🌻 🚗 ⛰️<p>Another transcendent show at the Savannah Music Festival. </p><p>Endea Owens &amp; The Cookout played straight-ahead jazz with bass at forefront, brought in a singer for a rendition of a song by local legend Johnny Mercer and played out with a song by Maze, with everyone dancing. </p><p>Beloved and I are still talking about it. There's an NPR Tiny Desk Concert with this band. Check'em out. </p><p><a href="https://mindly.social/tags/SMF2025" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>SMF2025</span></a> <a href="https://mindly.social/tags/Jazz" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Jazz</span></a> <a href="https://mindly.social/tags/JazzAppreciationMonth" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>JazzAppreciationMonth</span></a></p>
Joe Wynne 🌻 🚗 ⛰️<p>Our show for tonight (8:30ET) at the Savannah Music Festival is Endea Owens &amp; The Cookout. Probably will report on this show tomorrow morning. <a href="https://mindly.social/tags/Jazz" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Jazz</span></a> </p><p>Thai food first, though.</p><p>As agreed, got some azalea shots for you earlier today. <a href="https://mindly.social/tags/bloomscrolling" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>bloomscrolling</span></a> </p><p>🧵<a href="https://mindly.social/tags/SMF2025" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>SMF2025</span></a></p>
Joe Wynne 🌻 🚗 ⛰️<p>The Wooten Brothers play at the Savannah Music Festival. First pic from L to R...Regi does his frenzied strumming, Roy (founding member of Bela Fleck and the Flecktones) plays the Drumitar he invented, 5-time Grammy winner Victor (also founded Flecktones), top ten bass player of all time, and Joseph (now with Steve Miller Band) on keys.</p><p>Second pic...Regi and Victor overlap instruments and keep playing while rotating.</p><p>Such an extraordinary set. They're just starting their tour, so see them if you can. When they play jazz, then Led Zeppilin, followed by James Brown, it works.</p><p>All help others through unique charities they started or teach music.</p><p>🧵<br><a href="https://mindly.social/tags/SMF2025" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>SMF2025</span></a></p>
