Jenny Andrew<p><a href="https://freeradical.zone/tags/WeekendSewingClub" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>WeekendSewingClub</span></a> holiday special… this is the face of a woman thinking “fuck you I won”.</p><p>I jettisoned the coat I started last week (energy too scarce to waste on a project that doesn’t excite me), and redirected attention to the water-resistant, bonded houndstooth wool, but with a ‘simple’ cape pattern (new look, N6768).</p><p>It was like sewing a tarpaulin. Should have been doable in two days, but took 5. My hands are TRASHED. I love the result. <a href="https://freeradical.zone/tags/sewing" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>sewing</span></a> <a href="https://freeradical.zone/tags/tailoring" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>tailoring</span></a> <a href="https://freeradical.zone/tags/iMadeItMyself" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>iMadeItMyself</span></a> <a href="https://freeradical.zone/tags/ItHasPockets" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>ItHasPockets</span></a></p>

I just need to summon the energy to go out and find a suitable button.</p><p>Super pleased with this as my first start-to-finish garment of 2024, and an eminently wearable one.</p><p><a href="https://freeradical.zone/tags/sewing" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>sewing</span></a> <a href="https://freeradical.zone/tags/tailoring" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>tailoring</span></a> <a href="https://freeradical.zone/tags/maker" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>maker</span></a> <a href="https://freeradical.zone/tags/iMadeItMyself" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>iMadeItMyself</span></a> <a href="https://freeradical.zone/tags/itHasPockets" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>itHasPockets</span></a></p>

Catherine RW<p>Ok <a href="https://toot.wales/tags/WeekendSewingClub" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>WeekendSewingClub</span></a> votes please! I've almost finished my winter party dress (with shades of a C18 wrapping gown/piratical banyan)... but what colour buttons should I use? Option 1, soft green, perfectly pick up the colours of the leaves, or option 2, dark pink, which go more with the base colour. Both types of buttons are 15mm in diameter, so don't affect the size of buttonhole to be set. <span class="h-card" translate="no"><a href="https://a.gup.pe/u/sewinguk" class="u-url mention" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">@<span>sewinguk</span></a></span> <span class="h-card" translate="no"><a href="https://a.gup.pe/u/sewing" class="u-url mention" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">@<span>sewing</span></a></span></p>

Vicki Davis<p>Hey <a href="https://mstdn.social/tags/WeekendSewingClub" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>WeekendSewingClub</span></a> ! I totally messed up the top I was trying to make last weekend (mainly due to me not realising that what I needed to do was the burrito method) so I tried again this weekend with a couple of leftover fabrics. Managed to make it work (yay!) - pretty pleased with the look of it until I put it on and saw the unfortunate pattern vs boob placement! Next time will be better <a href="https://mstdn.social/tags/sewing" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>sewing</span></a> <span class="h-card"><a href="https://chirp.social/@sewing" class="u-url mention" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">@<span>sewing@chirp.social</span></a></span> <span class="h-card"><a href="https://a.gup.pe/u/sewing" class="u-url mention" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">@<span>sewing@a.gup.pe</span></a></span></p>
Catherine RW<p>Hello all! Vicki Davis<p><a href="https://mstdn.social/tags/weekendsewingclub" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>weekendsewingclub</span></a> One day I will be less vexed that I’ve ruined the top I was making by not understanding the instructions and doing something stupid and unfixable. On that day I will be more thankful that I have learned how to do it properly next time, through the power of YouTube videos. I fear that today is just the day where I gently seethe. <a href="https://mstdn.social/tags/sewing" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>sewing</span></a></p>
Vicki Davis<p>Hi <a href="https://mstdn.social/tags/WeekendSewingClub" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>WeekendSewingClub</span></a> <br>I’ve just finished <a href="https://mstdn.social/tags/sewing" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>sewing</span></a> this Sew Over It Libby shirt in a Lady McElroy fabric called Chicago Polaroids. It’s a bit of a fiddly make, due to the collar, but I’m pretty happy with it (assuming no-one looks at it too closely!)</p>
Catherine RW<p>Sunday achievement: 20 metres or so of cotton lawn bias tape :-) <a href="https://toot.wales/tags/WeekendSewingClub" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>WeekendSewingClub</span></a></p>
Catherine RW<p>Finally finished my birthday fabric dress (I was given fabric company vouchers for my birthday, and bought 7 metres of viscose/linen blend, very heavily inspired by Indian block prints). <a href="https://toot.wales/tags/WeekendSewingClub" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>WeekendSewingClub</span></a> <span class="h-card"><a href="https://a.gup.pe/u/sewing" class="u-url mention" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">@<span>sewing</span></a></span> </p><p><a href="https://lamazifabrics.com/products/red-block-print-linen-viscose-blend-fabric" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://</span><span class="ellipsis">lamazifabrics.com/products/red</span><span class="invisible">-block-print-linen-viscose-blend-fabric</span></a></p>
Jenny Andrew<p><a href="https://freeradical.zone/tags/WeekendSewingClub" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>WeekendSewingClub</span></a> latest…</p><p>Here’s the houndstooth Italian wool wrap dress, as near finished as it needs to be today. I will absolutely wear this.</p><p>A couple of details I’m pleased with:</p><p>The tie opening on the side seam is reinforced inside with a scrap of leather - invisible on the outside.</p><p>The hems are kind of low-rent for the fancy fabric: just overlocked and turned in: quite visible (though colour-matched). More importantly, it keeps that curved edge, and especially the flounce nice &amp; fluid</p>
Catherine RW<p>Finished the shirt :-) <a href="https://toot.wales/tags/WeekendSewingClub" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>WeekendSewingClub</span></a> <span class="h-card"><a href="https://a.gup.pe/u/sewing" class="u-url mention" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">@<span>sewing</span></a></span></p>
Catherine RW<p><a href="https://toot.wales/tags/WeekendSewingClub" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>WeekendSewingClub</span></a> I've nearly finished the shirt, just the buttons down the front to go :-) </p><p>Fancy cuffs, but plain front. <span class="h-card"><a href="https://a.gup.pe/u/sewing" class="u-url mention" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">@<span>sewing</span></a></span></p>
Catherine RW<p>White, white, or white? I've got some white linen to make a shirt, and as well as sew-all polyester Gutermann colour 800 for the construction, I've got two options for the topstitching and buttonholes. One is silk colour 800, the other is Rayon Sulky colour 1001. </p><p>To me, the silk is a more creamy white, and the rayon is a brighter white, a closer match to the linen. Thoughts? <a href="https://toot.wales/tags/WeekendSewingClub" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>WeekendSewingClub</span></a> <span class="h-card"><a href="https://a.gup.pe/u/sewing" class="u-url mention" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">@<span>sewing</span></a></span></p>
Catherine RW<p>Ok vote time. Lime green or pale purple label (will be on the inside of a neck). </p><p><a href="https://toot.wales/tags/WeekendSewingClub" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>WeekendSewingClub</span></a></p>
