Avec ici Y5/P5, Mattt Konture, Captain Cavern.BASIC est le nom choisi par Y5/P5 (Frédéric Renault) pour recouvrir certaines de ses activités d'édition. Un des graphzines qu'il publie porte également ce titre. "moi j’ai préféré faire Basic, « de base », (...) d’être « de base ». Moi je suis né en banlieue, dans une banlieue HLM. J’ai l’habitude" (entretien, 2022). Les dessins sont souvent réalisés dans le métro, ou bien durant ses heures salariées de tubiste aux Journaux Officiels.
