I saw someone justifying <a href="https://masto.nu/tags/queerness" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>queerness</span></a> as a "natural" thing because we see it in other <a href="https://masto.nu/tags/organisms" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>organisms</span></a>. I often challenge the rhetoric of there being "queer", "trans", or "gay" animals. But that's because "queerness" needs challenging.
