Last Thursday’s conservation work in the nature reserve. The area next to one of the ponds was cut back and cleared to promote new growth. It was all piled up inside the apex of trees to provide an area of wildlife habitat and to start composting.

A wildlife pond with areas of clear water and algae. Hazel is growing at the edge. The pond slopes at the sides to a depth of two metres in the middle.
An area of ground that’s been cleared of a lot of undergrowth. It’s all piled up in a heap in between tree trunks in the back left. The pond is just out of shot to the right. Lots of dogwood saplings are coming up which will be removed and replanted elsewhere in upcoming working parties.
The compostable material stacked in between tree trunks for stability and to provide an area of habitat for wildlife during winter.
