Welcome to all the recent #firstpost Mastodon arrivals!

Some tips to help you get started:

1. Share a post with your interests & the introduction # to let us know what you're about

2. Pin your intro post to your profile, as an extended bio.

3. For more traction (:boost_ok: boosts) add alt text descriptions to all your images.

4. Add a profile pic and fill in your bio page, so we know you're not a bot

@srfirehorseart Had to wipe/reset smartphone - and now I can't find the really useful Lists feature here. Nor the whole sidebar it used to part of! What to do, there's so much great stuff being shared but sometimes I have to focus down and that was a simple way to filter - any help appreciated:)

@FediTips @srfirehorseart Phone tells me its Mastodon for Android v2.9.4

@SusiArnott

Was the sidebar a list of icons on the right of the screen?

@SusiArnott

Okay, I think I know what has happened! 🙂

I think you were using your server's website or its web app. This is what a lot of people do, as it has more features than the official app.

You can get back to this by logging in on your server's website on your phone. You can also optionally install the website as a web app so that you get the same interface in full screen and with notifications, more info on how to do that here: fedi.tips/how-to-install-web-a

@FediTips Thanks again! Hoping to follow up on this hand-in-hand with someone who speaks IT :)

Good tips. So you can access your Mastodon instance through a browser, a web app, or an app. Personally I prefer a browser anyway, because you can have multiple tabs, and the app mindset is often superfluous, eg a YouTube app just means YouTube site plus forcing advertisements on you. Not sure if X is deliberately slow and clunky on Firefox compared to Mastodon.
