First box of 2025. Wasn't expecting anything, to be honest, so surprised to get three. Of course, I could have bet my mortgage on them being these three given how early it is in the season. Hardy souls from last night:

1) Hebrew Character (left)
2) Early Grey (top right)
3) Common Quaker (bottom right)

Overhead shot of triangular moth, about 2 cm long on a finger. It has a furry head and nape. It is largely different shades of brown but has two distinct cream-edged, black L shapes, one of each wing with the inner edge of the L being concave rounded which partly surrounds a cream bordered circular stigmata. The lower edge of each L is also slightly concave adjoining atop a cream bordered kidney-shaped stigmata. Below this, running wing edge to wing edge is a shallow W shaped light purple line.
A side on shot of a 1cm moth on a finger. It is light grey with black or dark grey flecks and flashes. It has a furry head with a small mohican. It has black and white stripey legs.
Overhead shot of a 1.5cm triangular moth on a finger. It faces downwards rather than upwards. It is a a mid-sandy brown with two stigmata on each wing, one circular, one kidney-shaped. Towards the bottom wing edge there is a brown orange and a cream line running left to right across both wings below which runs a series of faint black dots again running left to right wing edge to wing edge. The very bottom wing edge is fringed.

@hastingsmothman for one unhinged pre-caffeine second i thought it was "box" like one of those monthly subscription boxes and you were just getting sent random moths in the mail

@nev In theory, that could be quite fun. A little cruel on the moths maybe, but who doesn't like a little package through the letterbox?! I prefer the word "box" to "trap", because trap suggests a) they might die (they don't) and b) they can't escape, but actually they can escape with a bit of effort (and many do come and go overnight!) Most choose to snuggle up in warm egg boxes.
