"This almost-great Raspberry Pi alternative is missing one key feature" Dude, I'll tell you what the key feature is that's missing. The missing feature is identical ports and pinout. Why is this so hard for Raspberry Pi competitors to comprehend? So many unused alternative boards out there, so many unused Raspberry Pi accessories. The solution is straightforward, no? #RaspberryPi #Radxa #BananaPi #Pine64 #Sipeed #SiFive https://www.zdnet.com/home-and-office/this-almost-great-raspberry-pi-alternative-is-missing-one-key-feature/
@ejrowley ZDNet lost all credibility for me years ago. Here they are moaning about lack of bluetooth or WiFi, and persononally one of the first things I do with a new Raspberry Pi (or at least did when I could get them) was disable WiFi, Bluetooth, and IPv6. Didn't need any of those things for what I was doing. But if someone does need WiFi or Bluetooth there are inexpensive dongles for that.
You are right about the lack of identical GPIO pins and ports being an issue, the other problem is they tend to come out with separate versions of whatever OS the boards support for each model board they make instead of doing something like Raspberry Pi OS that works on all Raspberry Pi models. The reason that is bad is because it makes it easier for them to declare a board obsolete and stop providing OS updates for it at some future point. I can still use an original Raspberry Pi from years ago with the current Raspberry Pi OS; I wonder how many competitors have that level of compatibility?
