I like the idea - it's great for ease of contribution.

Because Mastodon federation members come & go, and take their toots with them when they go, you might want to consider some kind of federation crawler that slowly harvests & persists these posts for posterity.

The API lets you search for posts with a hashtag. The only wrinkle is that due to federation searching any single instance is unlikely to get everything in the Fediverse.

I am actually working on some code for a robot that collates/boosts posts with particular hashtags.
